What is Microsoft Tag ?

Microsoft have developed a form of QR Code or "Quick Respose" code which can be used to send mobile users to a website URL embedded in the tag image.

The Microsoft Tag takes the form of areas of coloured triangles, dots or images which are unique. When scanned by a smart phone, ipad or other device with a Tag reader App installed the device will be directed to display the destination web site.

The website could contain special offers, a discount voucher, assembly instructions, a food menu or even a youtube video! The uses are truly limitless. The technology enables users instant access to information which they need at that moment in time.

If you are a marketer, you can see the potential for this is enormous, as not only does the client get sent to the website of your choice, but the geographical location of the scan is recorded too. This geo-location information is available to see as scans are agregated into "hot spots" and displayed on a map.

The map is available through Microsofts Tag Manager and lets marketers optimise their campaign by zeroing in on areas which are having high or low scan rates and can change their campaign dynamically to improve the ROI for that area.

For example if 50,000 mailshots were sent out across the country with Microsoft Tag image as part of the call to action, the geographical response rate can be tracked.
